About

Learn a bit about me!

Hi, birdies.

My name is Melissa Powell, and I welcome you to my blog.

First of all, thanks for being curious about the writer of the articles. Without further ado, here I go, yapping about myself.

Me: A Short History

By day, I work in communications. Which could mean a hundred things, and I’ll let you decide which. And after the 9-to-5 gets over, I start thinking about the following things (not necessarily in that order): what to make for dinner, which sheet mask to chill out with, and what to write for this space.

Now, my beginnings were not so zen. In fact, when I was a kid, the only mud mask my face knew was the actual mud that slowly made its way into my pores after a solid session at the skatepark. And for food, I could demolish an In-N-Out Animal Style, count the pickle as a green, and genuinely call it a day.

But that lifestyle had a tax on it. My skin started sending strong signals: dullness, breakouts, the kind of texture that no filter could fully fix. So I got conscious. I started eating better, making bone broth rich in collagen, and actually reading ingredient lists. And while I was sorting out the inside, I started sorting out the outside too: a vitamin C serum for brightness, a barrier-friendly moisturiser for the days my skin just wanted to be left alone.

Except then I fell into the other trap. The one where skincare stops being “care” and starts becoming a curriculum of “optimizing” your routine: Layer correctly, never skip a product in the roster. And suddenly, self-care was just another thing to stress about, another bill to pay, another way to feel behind.

So, to lessen the stress on my poor brain, I started taking notes while going through that loop: some being observations, others being ingredient deep dives, and also things I was testing on myself.

The Story

Let's Tackle Interesting Topics

Skin economy is something we all keep coming back to, isn’t it? The specific guilt and stress of standing in a grocery aisle, wondering whether to spend on the good olive oil or save it for a serum.

The way womanhood comes loaded with a performance tax, a long unspoken bill for upkeep. And honestly? I started this space because I was tired of feeling behind on all of it. So, stick around, it gets better. For all of us, because I don’t like to pretend I have answers to questions that were never meant to have one right answer in the first place.
